Anyone, who is following the Indian music, would know the name - Hariharan. Everyone, identify his as one of the most trained and versatile vocal singers in India. However, he had to struggle a lot during his initial days, when he was longing for a good break. Though born in South India, he had most of his childhood and music training in Mumbai. Hariharan got popular after composer AR Rahman gave him chance in the movie “Roja” directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie was released in the year 1992 and his popularity shot to a new height after he and his partner released the album - Colonial Cousins.


Colonial Cousin, which was released in the mid '90s was a fusion album, which was very new to the world of Indian music. Hariharan won MTV Indian Viewer’s Choice Award and U.S Billboards Award for this album. Composer AR Rahman was instrumental in bringing out the best of Hariharan’s voice. The composer gave lots of freedom to imbibe the singer’s unique and versatile style in the former’s composition. Today, Hariharan is busy giving concerts across the country and world. He performs film music and gazals to various audiences. Apart from singing, Hariharan has also acted movies in Tamil and Hindi
